Current Event Summary Writing [25]

 

1. Select a recent (within 1 month) article related to science.

2. Read the entire selection. [4]

3. Cut-out the article and glue-stick onto a regular sheet of paper and do the following on the back or on another sheet stapled on the front of the article .

4. State the following:

a. Title [1]

b. Author’s name (everything was written by someone; Staff writer is ok). [1]

c. Source, date of publication [1]

d. Subject (like, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Genetics, Nuclear testing, Physics, Astronomy, Biology, Geology, Material Science, … 1 to 3 words) [1]

e. Abstract (summary of article in paragraph form; 10 -15 good sentences) [10]

5. Select, highlight in the article, and define 5 vocabulary words that are essential to the understanding of this article. Preferably, they should be new words to you. Define in 5 words or less. [5]

6. Write at least one question that this article posed to you. [2]

Short articles :::: the article should be significantly larger than your required Abstract [up to -20 pts]

Non-Science article :::: [-10 pts]

Old articles :::: [up to -10 pts]

The article must be a Science Event that is Current.
